Tira Koh 140 kW hydro electric project

Tira Koh is a community in Parwan, central Afghanistan.  Home to around 130 households, the community was powered by 2x 70 kW Crossflow turbines built by a previous donor.  This 2010 refurbishment project was funded by the US Task Force for Business Stability Operations (TFBSO), and involved removing and replacing the 2 Crossflow turbines and generators, fitting new frequency/speed controllers on the turbines to ensure reliable voltage and frequency, and rebuilting the civil works including the intake, canal and forebay.  The transmission and distribution lines were rebuilt and pre pay power meters installed for each house to ensure financial sustainability could be achieved.

The project continues to service the community with 24/7 power through 2014.
